And DEFRA gives its backing to Anaerobic Digestion as well. Anaerobic digestion and weekly food waste collections were hailed as the answer to the food waste mountain in the English waste strategy, published by the government in May.

Anaerobic Digestion (AD) is the process of breaking down food waste through bacteria in the absence of air. The process produces two by-products - the bio-gas methane which can be captured for energy recovery, and a liquid or solid digestate which can be used as a soil improver.

This year,s Ecobuild, held at Earls Court, London from 27th February until 1st March was seen as a great success. The Ecobuild exhibition has helped to create a platform for many visitors to build on.

The 2012 Olympic site is well served by waterways, most of which are navigable and with the announcement today (28th February 2007) of the go ahead for the development of a new lock system at the Prescott Channel, a new chapter in the use of water as a viable option for delivery of materials for 2012 is begun. Burdens welcome this significant step forward in the development of the waterways for this reason.
