Thermoplan Block Wall Systems

Thermoplan systems use Ziegel blocks with thin bed mortar, to provide a breathing wall construction system. Ideal for self-builders - they are very simple to use - and for the same reason are ideal on developments were speed is required. When combined with woodfibre board they can form a thermally and acoustically high performance shell.

The Ziegel blocks come as part of a full load bearing external and internal wall masonry system, and combine high thermal performance with robustness, speed of build and breathing wall design.

Thermoplan systems are ideal for schools, hospitals, public buildings etc.

Thin Bed Construction
1mm bed joints with dry interlocking vertical joints for high laying rates with no limit on height per day and no drying-out shrinkage - it's amazing how quick and simple Ziegel builds can be.

Complete Building System
Fully compatible range of special shapes, internal blocks, lintels, fixings and tools, lightweight mortars, plasters and renders.

Thermally Superior
Highly vapour open external walls easily meet Part L requirements without condensation risk. Ziegel can create a comfortable, healthy internal environment.

Load - bearing
Ziegel blocks have a permissible compressive strength of 0.8 N/mm2 for external insulating blocks and up to 1.8 N/mm2 for internal acoustic wall blocks, more than adequate for most domestic and low-rise construction.

All-round performance Ziegel internal blocks can be used for Part E approved separating wall types and all blocks are non-combustible providing 30 to 120 minutes fire resistance.

Benefits

  • Very simple, quick and robust construction method.
  • Excellent thermal performance (minimised coldbridging and easy airtightness).
  • Good over heating control due to thermal mass of block.
  • Breathing construction.
  • Full system incl. all external and internal blocks, lintels, mortars, plasters, renders, fixings etc.
  • Sustainable, achieving BREEAM Green Guide A rating.
  • MMC approved system.

The Thermoplan systems are fully certified and warrantable for use in the UK, and have been used across the UK from the Orkneys to Sheerness, in houses, schools and offices. They are the most common type of building system in Germany, and are also the main systems used for superinsulated housing such as Passiv Haus. The systems are as follows:

Thermoplan - A thin bed, solid, fired clay, insulated loadbearing system with render finish.
Thermoplan Clad - A thin bed, solid, fired clay, insulated loadbearing system with cladding externally (stone, brick, timber, terracotta, metal etc).
Thermoplan Plus - A thin bed, solid, fired clay, insulated loadbearing system with additional external woodfibre insulation with render finish, for enhanced u-values or as infill in concrete frame buildings.
Thermoplan Clad Plus - A thin bed, solid, fired clay, insulated loadbearing system with additional external woodfibre insulation with cladding externally, for enhanced u-values or as infill in concrete frame buildings.
