Ultrasonic Transducers
A wide range of airborne ultrasonic transducers is available for level and flow applications. All transducers have been designed for use in Zone 1 hazardous and chemically hostile environments. Burdens Environmental transducers used in flow measurement operate at the highest frequency in the market and offer the greatest resolution and accuracy available.
Ultrasonic Transducers For Level And Flow
High Efficiency
The PenMet range of ultrasonic transducers use radial mode piezoelectric resonators when transmitting through the unique facia material and perform highly efficiently at comparatively low transmission voltages when compared with other ultrasonic transducers.
Automatic Gain Control
Normally the amplitude of a returning ultrasonic echo decays as the target increases in distance from the transducer. This causes timing errors which give rise to measurement inaccuracies.
Using automatic gain control, the amplitude of the returning echoes are equalized, to ensure that the electronic timing circuits see the same signal amplitude irrespective of whether it is a strong or weak echo.
High Q Filtering
Industrial plant noise can often give rise to a larger receive signal at a sub-harmonic of the ultrasonic transducers transmit frequency which effectively blocks out the true echo. Using electronic filtering and precision rectification only echoes with exactly the same frequency as the transmitted signal are captured to ensure reliable measurement.
Wide Temperature Range
The ultrasonic transducers have a thermal barrier interface, which enables them to be operated with an external controller module.
Wide Operating Range
The attenuation of ultrasonic signals is proportional to the frequency of the transmitted wave. When considering an ultrasonic transducer for a particular application this should be borne in mind. Pulsonic Technologies offer a range of transducers to cover target ranges up to 30m in liquids.
Where industrial noise is a particular problem at lower transmitting frequencies, the PenMet 018 transducer operating at 80kHz, well above most industrial spectrums, can offer a solution.
Narrow Beam Angle
All PenMet transducers have a narrow transmission beam and suppressed acoustic sidelobes. As a result the ultrasonic beam does not excessively spread as it travels from the transducer to the target, resulting in a reduced probability of false echoes from struts, ladders and other internal tank fittings.
Variable Firing Rate
The frequency that the transducer transmits an ultrasonic pulse is programmable through the PenMet instrumentation units. This has the advantage of ensuring that the level measurement is more accurately sampled according to its rate of change. For example, a fast filling tank would require a fast firing rate to maintain high measurement accuracy over a short sampling module.
Temperature sensor
All Burdens Environmental transducers include a temperature sensor.
Range Of Housing Materials And Fittings
Housing materials available include HDPE for general-purpose applications and PTFE transducers for use where contact with extremely corrosive chemicals is likely.
All transducers have an IP65 or greater performance, which gives a high protection against dust and water penetration.
All transducers have M20 thread fitting with the option of an NP16 flange kit.
Solids
When measuring solids the ultimate transducer range can be effected by the density and particle size of the solid material, in addition to ambient conditions such as dust and high temperatures. You should consult the technical department for further details if you are in doubt about the maximum achievable range for your application.
