Energy Saving Light Bulbs
Energy Saving Lightbulbs (also known as compact fluorescent or CFL) are the quickest way we can all contribute to the effort to conserve energy and reduce emissions. They work in much the same way as a fluorescent strip light: the inside is coated with a phosphor that gives off the light and there is an electronic ballast to start the lamp operating. This is a much more efficient way of working than the glowing tungsten filament in traditional lamps. This is the reason that CFL’s have lower wattages than traditional lamps.
Some CFL statistics
- If every UK household installed 3 Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs enough energy would be saved in a year to supply all the street lighting in the UK.
- If everyone installed one energy saving light bulb the carbon dioxide emissions saved would fill the Royal Albert Hall nearly 2000 times
- The British public walks to the moon and back twice every year to change lightbulbs. CFLs last on average 12 times as long as standard bulbs: save your shoes.
Burdens supply branded Osram, GE, & Omicron lamps, as the many inferior cheap lamps on the market often have a much shorter life, and represent poor value for money and the environment.
