Burdens Environmental Sponsors the Good Homes Alliance

The Good Homes Alliance is a group of housing developers, building professionals and sustainability experts whose aim is to build and promote sustainable homes and communities, and to transform the whole of mainstream UK house building into a sustainable endeavour.

Significant changes of approach are required for housebuilding in the UK if we are to meet the very serious and imminent challenges of global warming, resource depletion, human health, and community and personal well being.

What are Good Homes/ why is this important?
Housebuilding in the UK is a major activity - delivering about 150,000 new houses per year - with a huge impact on our lives.

In environmental terms, housing accounts for over 25% of UK CO2 emissions through energy use, with all buildings contributing to around 50% in total. Burdens Environmental offers products for sustainable and environmental building solutions for the life cycle of the built environment - working in partnership with the Good Homes Alliance towards sustainable communities.

Upcoming Events - The Business Case for Sustainable Homes - Adding Financial Value
2nd July 2007, 13.30–17.30pm

The London Underwritting Rooms

This event is the second in a series of education events from the Good Homes Alliance. It will focus on the business case for sustainable homes, and how to make sustainability pay in the world of housing development and construction.

  • What is the market value for sustainable housing?
  • Do sustainable homes have to cost more?
  • Will people pay more for them- and how much?
  • How can the value of GHA homes be enhanced?

At this GHA event we’ll consider whole life value of sustainable housing– over the lifetime of the structures themselves and during the building ownership. We’ll go into the nitty-gritty of what sustainability features really cost, and the potential added value that can be achieved, as always using real life case studies to stimulate discussions on what actually works and what doesn’t deliver.

Building Good Homes also requires justification of the investment, so we will explore how buyer value, sustainable financing packages and fiscal incentives such as stamp duty can help build the case for sustainable homes, as well as presenting the latest, unpublished information about buyer demand for sustainability.

Who should attend?
GHA members, developers and housebuilders, plus anyone involved in the planning, procurement or design of homes who wants to know more about how GHA standards can be implemented and used to add financial value to housing developments. We’re presenting current and unpublished papers, so anyone who is keen to get up to date on the latest regulations and research would do well to come along and get involved.

To book a place at this event please email Lilja: info@goodhomes.org.uk

Free for GHA members, £117.50 (inc VAT) for non members
