Burdens Sponsor the Peoples Open Golf Tournament
Burdens are pleased to announce their sponsorship of this year’s People’s Open Golf Tournament. The event is to take place a month after the Open Championship on Thursday 21st August.

Amateur Golf Tournament
The People’s Open Golf Tournament (POGT) gives budding amateur golfers the chance to test their abilities in the same stage faced by professional golfers at The Open, the final round being played at Royal Birkdale where the 2008 Open Championship was recently held.
"The idea that amateur golfers in the UK could follow in the footsteps of Tiger Woods and pit themselves against this year's Open Championship course at Royal Birkdale was very appealing and something we wanted to be a part of," explains Will Kirkman, Business Development Director, at Burdens.
The recent success of Chris Wood clearly shows that home bred amateur talent can achieve great success. The Bristol based amateur overcame tough competition to finish 5th overall in this years Open Championship. Registration for the 2008 POGT is now closed. You can register for next year’s event by completing the online form on the POGT web site. The 2009 final will be played on next year’s Open Championship course at Turnberry.
The 2008 POGT Final
A final 72 golfers will take to the course at Royal Brikdale, ranging from 19 to 74 years of age. Players are from all over the UK with handicaps from 1 to 24. David Dryer the tournament’s organiser is looking forward to what will surely be a memorable day for all those involved.
"If you're a golfer, chances are you will have dreamt of playing in the Open Championship. The People's Open Golf Tournament gives amateur golfers a chance to realise what could be an impossible dream by following in the spike marks of some of the game's greatest heroes," summarised David.
