The cost of alternative heating and power
How much do alternative heating and power systems cost and is the grant system too appealing? Ministers have been encouraged to extend grants for consumers as demand for solar panels soars.
A cap on grants was introduced in December last year. At the start of each month applicants gain grants on a first come first served basis. March's grants were available from 9:00am on Thursday 15th. One hundred and eighty nine applicants had subscribed online by 10:15am at which point the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) closed the online bidding applications as it had met its limit. It just goes to show that applicants need to be camped out at their computers to get their application in early.
