Fencing

There is a particularly strong case for specifying plastic products for use in wet environments, where timber structures require high maintenance and have a short lifespan.

Advantages:

• Extremely durable - recycled plastic products have four times the expected lifespan compared to timber alternatives, with little visible wear reported by product users.
• Rot-proof and algae-proof - little or no requirement for maintenance, painting or preservatives.
• Crack-proof and insect-resistant - plastic timber will not crack or dry out, and is resistant to attack by insects.
• Labour saving - reduced maintenance requirements and replacements compared to timber materials casn lead to significant savings in labour 
• Splinter-free - plastic does not splinter like timber, and handrails can be smoothly finished as required.
• UV-resistant - little or no colour loss or sunlight damage has been recorded on products that have been in situ for 5 years.
• Vandal-resistant - due to its surface texture, the product is more resistant to graffiti, and has also proved more resilient to other types of vandalism.
• Less flammable - most recycled plastic fencing and walkways will fall under “surface spread of flame” rating class 3 in accordance with BS476. In addition, plastic fencing and walkways, particularly solid profiles, are more difficult to ignite than timber.
• Lightweight - often products are lighter than wooden or metal alternatives.
